Led by three of the top five overall scorers during the meet, Apple Valley gymnastics vaulted past Prior Lake 132.85-81.75 Tuesday night.

Eagles standout and senior captain Sidney Bethke ended the night as the top individual scorer in every event and overall with 36.05 points.  Bethke’s preparation for her events is simple: “Stick it.  Win.”

Apple Valley didn’t just rely on Bethke to carry the team.  Senior captain Grace Roepke and 7th grader Sydney McGregor finished second and third with 32.65 and 31.625 points, respectively.  The Eagles also had most of their varsity competitors earn top five spots in each category.

Although they won handily, coach Liz Carlson identified improvements that her team needs to make.  “I think we need to stick beam.  I think that’s always the key in gymnastics,” Carlson said.

Bethke also focused on her own improvements: “Stick all my landings and execute better.”

Apple Valley’s next meet is Tuesday, January 12th at 6:00 at Lakeville South High School.
