Apple Valley boys’ basketball beat conference rival Farmington 73-43 on Friday.

“Before the game we talked about playing 36 solid, consistent minutes of our best basketball, and we did pretty well at that tonight,” said Apple Valley coach Zach Goring.

The Eagles got off to a hot start from behind the three point arc early in the game, helping give them a sizable lead over the Tigers in the first half. Their strong defense and effectiveness on the fast break helped fuel a 26-3 run at the end of the half, putting them up 47-27.

Apple Valley’s defense was locked in the entire second half, only allowing 16 points on 26.9% shooting, while the Eagles relied on scoring from guard Gary Trent Jr. to close out the rest of the game.

Trent led the way on offense with 28 points, and was truly dominant in every way for the Eagles. “It’s really just a testament to my hard work, that’s what I work for,” Trent said. “I put countless hours in the gym, and every night I go out I want to be as efficient as I can, offensively and defensively, and tonight I tried, and I did it.”

Eagles guard Tre Jones finished with 16 points and 6 assists, and forward Cameron Kirksey finished with 17 points.

The Eagles’ perfect conference record moves to 12-0 with this win, while overall they are now 19-1. Their next game is at home against Eagan on Tuesday at 7 pm. Best of luck, gentlemen!
