Going into the state semi-final game, the Eagles had a determination to defeat the Royals.  After a strong battle the Eagles came up short, 60-84. The Eagle boys will continue to play for third place Saturday, March 12, at Concordia University-St. Paul at 3:30 p.m.

From the beginning the game looked great, with the Eagles winning the tip off. After falling behind 16-5, they closed to within six points after the first ten minutes. Hopkins pushed the lead to ten, but the Eagles went on a 10-3 run to bring the score to 33-34 at the half.  They used some big defensive stops which created fantastic offensive opportunities, giving them momentum going into halftime.

In the second half Hopkin’s defense controlled the flow of the game, not allowing Apple Valley to get a groove going. Hopkins forced the Eagles to only shoot 37% from the field goal, while Hopkins shot 52%. Eight minutes into the half Hopkins had the lead, 41-53, and they never let up from there, cruising to a 24-point victory.

Good luck to the Eagles as they play Osseo for 3rd place this Saturday. Thank you to the seniors for an incredible run at Apple Valley!
