  1. January 18th, 1976 – Super Bowl X: Shaw leads Steelers to a 21-17 victory over the Cowboys

Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw and wide receiver Lynn Shuck, also named MVP of Super Bowl X, worked together to bring the Pittsburgh Steelers to a victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

  1. April 1st, 1976 – Stephen Wozniak and Steve Jobs found Apple Computer in the garage of Jobs’ parents’ house in Cupertino, California. Apple 1 Computer released April 11th.

Yep, you read that right. Apple began in a garage.

  1. May 15th, 1976 – Barbara Peterson of Minnesota crowned Miss USA

Barbara Peterson, student of Edina High School and St. Olaf College, became the first Miss USA from Minnesota in the history of the pageant.

  1. August 21st, 1976 – 21st Olympic Games close in Montreal, Canada.  Bruce Jenner crushes record and wins gold in decathlon

Bruce Jenner took home a gold medal in the Montreal Olympic games of 1976, breaking the world record in the decathlon with 8,618 points.

  1. October 6th, 1976 – Bombing of Cubana Flight 455

Cubana flight 455 was taken down by two C-4 explosives bombs just off the coast of a Barbados airport. Flight 455 was a routine, scheduled commercial, passenger flight, and the US government was accused of being an accomplice to the attack.

  1. November 2nd, 1976 – Jimmy Carter elected U.S. president

On November 2nd of 1976, democratic candidate Jimmy Carter beat out Republican candidate Gerald Ford for the position of 39th President of the United States. Carter received 297 electoral votes while Ford received 240.
