Apple Valley girls’ lacrosse dominated in a 17-0 win over conference rival Burnsville on Tuesday.

After a disappointing loss to Prior Lake last Tuesday, the Eagles were looking to rebound. They couldn’t have asked for a stronger game than they had.

“Our team is growing everyday since that Prior Lake loss,” said captain Katie Moynihan. “We had it, we had them, and we let them go, but we knew what we’re capable of, and we know that we want to make it back to state; we all know it’s attainable. Something like this is exactly what we needed.”

Apple Valley could do no wrong in this game. From their offense to their defense, it was a perfect game for the Eagles.

Offense was the main focal point for the team. They spent most of their time on that end of the field, passing it well, and generating lots of shots and goals.

Within the first ten minutes of the game, Apple Valley had already jumped out to a 5-0 lead – not even the rain shower in the middle of the game could cool off the Eagles. They went into the half with an 8-0 lead, and came back for the second half with the same energy and focus they had in the first. In the last ten minutes of the game, four goals were scored, a great way to end the game.

Katie Moynihan led the way with five goals, Molly Moynihan had four, Reagan Roelofs had two goals and two assists, Sophia Leong and Emily Vogelgesang both had two goals, and Rachel Hertzberg and Lily Leong had a goal a piece.

“I thought it was a great team effort,” said head coach Alexandra Ross. “I think defense is what really won us the game, and it really wasn’t the defense from the defense but the defense from the attackers. I thought they did a really good job, and off the draw they were scoring and that just helped build that momentum for us.”

The Eagles will look to build momentum in their next game against Eagan next Monday at home at 5:30 pm. Let’s get another win, ladies!
