The Apple Valley High School Athletics Department is pleased to announce that Chris Scanlon has been selected as the new men’s soccer coach.  Chris takes over for William “Chuck” Scanlon as the head coach.  Chuck Scanlon led the Eagles to 9 state championships and was the only coach in the history of the school.  Upon his retirement from coaching following the 2015 season, he has the most victories in the history of Minnesota Soccer.

Throughout the interview process, Chris spoke about the power of a coach to have positive relationships with student-athletes.  “I still have a passion for playing the game of soccer and enjoy coaching the game,” said Chris. “I love working with the students and building strong connections.”

Having been a part of the Eagles coaching staff for the past 12 seasons, Chris is no stranger to Apple Valley Soccer.  He is a 1997 graduate of AVHS and still holds multiple school scoring records:  most goals in a season (32), most points (81), and most career assists (45).

Athletics Director Pete Buesgens is excited about the hire.  “We are looking forward to having Chris lead the Eagle’s program.  He knows the game, knows our student-athletes, and is committed to an education-based philosophy in the coaching world.”

Buesgens added, “Chris knows he has big shoes to fill and we are confident that he is the right person to lead our program in a positive direction.”

Chris is a Business and Safety Education teacher at AVHS and also serves as the head boys golf coach.
