Apple Valley runs its offense against Eagan.

The Apple Valley girls basketball season is now in full swing, and coach Jeremy Gordon’s team is showing the promise of a great year already.

The girls traveled to Minnetonka for their first game of the year on November 26th and upset the defending state champions, 67-52. Last year the girls were dominated by Minnetonka, 92-67.

Led by seniors Lyndsey Robson, Erin Baxter, and Sara Teske, the girls are looking to win their section and advance to state.

“The difference between this year and last year is that we’re a deeper team, the girls are very focused, and we’re all working towards a common goal of getting better each day,” said Gordon.

The Eagles were ousted by Eastview 51-44 in the section semifinals last year. They finished with an 11-18 record, but they know that they are capable of doing much better.

”Our goal this year is to make it to state, and in order to do that we need to be focused at practice and get better each game,” said Robson.

Robson will be playing D1 basketball with Green Bay next year, and Baxter and Teske will be playing D2 at South Minnesota State University. The three all signed with their respective schools back in early November.

“Apple Valley girls basketball really hasn’t had anyone play after high school, so it’s really cool to see that three of the five starters for this team are going to play college basketball, and even the younger girls will have a chance to do the same thing,” said Robson.

This could be one of the best girls basketball teams that Apple Valley has produced. The program has not had a ton of success, but it looks like that is going to change this year.

The girls will look to follow up their big win last week with another one on Saturday, an away game vs. St. Michael-Albertville. Best of luck ladies!
