Top 5 Christmas Gifts

Petr Kratochvil

From childhood to adulthood, a gift underneath the Christmas tree will always bring cozy and home-filled feelings.

As we mentally prepare ourselves for three months of snowy horror, there is most definitely a light at the end of the tunnel. Christmas is slowly approaching and it’s almost impossible to avoid the excitement of a warm and colorful celebration.

Being the season of giving, anticipating a gift is half of the fun in many households. However, producing that gift might be just as stressful, especially to the bountiful hoards of procrastinators. If you’re still wondering what to give your friends and family members, then worry no more! Here are some of the top gift options available to add to that Christmas list:

  • Home-Made is Always Best

When it comes to gifts, the more sentimental it is the better. Therefore, a super expensive watch might not mean as much as a heartfelt letter. Putting thought and effort into a piece of work is heart warming and having it turn out great doesn’t hurt.

However, looking for one project to work amongst the sea of DIYs can be near impossible. A recent popular project would be a family photo wreath. These consist of 6 simple steps and have a beautiful finish. Its overall theme can easily be changed depending on personal styles.

Another popular DIY project out there is personalized coasters. This adorable idea is simple and can add homey feeling to a daily used appliance. Also, the fact that it can be designed in many different styles makes it exceptionally unique to that individual.

Furthermore, hand-made sugar scrubs are growing in popularity as they prove to be completely effective. They also have positive and healthy results as they soften and exfoliate skin. Not to mention their sweet scents and colors are appealing.

There are thousands of other hand-made gifting ideas that all have one thing in common: it depends on a person willing to put time and effort. Even though not all are “easy” like they claim, the end result is more than worth it.

  • Getting Cozy with a Good Book

While winter gradually traps homes with its layers of snow, grabbing a good book might be the best option. Picking out a book, however, from the jungle of tempting Barnes and Nobles out there will most likely take forever. A few recommended reads by the Talon’s news writer Osob Abas would include Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, The Martian by Andy Weir, and Winter by Marissa Meyer.

Giving electronic books is also a good option and more likely to be the preferred form of books in this generation. There are many different types of e-readers such as the Nook or Kindle, and each have their own way of transferring purchased e-books.

Moreover, giving a book transcends just a simple gift and becomes an inspiration to its reader. Many children in low-income houses don’t have the opportunity to enjoy a good read, which later affects their early progress in school.

Having an interesting book to read can show different point of views and teach about varied cultures and past practices. It can be a source of escape as a person enters a wonderfully fictional world filled with challenges and quests. The importance of having a book period can mean the world to someone, therefore, giving it as a gift can have the same effect.

  • Newest Video Games

Fill a gamer’s heart with joy by giving them one of the newest games out there. This could also include a retro game depending on the person; however, it’s safer to fall back on the newer options.

Since the majority of days will be spent trying to escape the cold, might as well do it with a fun video game to spend the time. Recent popular video games include Uncharted 4: a Thief’s End (PS4), The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine (PC), and Overwatch (PC).

Another option can be buying either music or movies as a gift. You can purchase music by buying its digital form or sending an iTunes gift via email. Also, it’s possible to gift movies using the same process.

Some recently popularized music in the last week would include Black Beatles by Rae Sremmurd, Starboy by The Weekend, and Closer by The Chainsmokers.

Many digital gifts are increasing in popularity and are being used more often in this streaming age. Using technology for our benefit would be an easier and quicker solution if the time before Christmas was coming to an end.

  • Electronics Never Fail!

Buying an electronic device will almost always produce a pleasing result, especially when it’s during this time of year. There are many options to go with and they might be a little pricier than most. In order to avoid the pricey routes, it’s best to pick wisely and consider some of the following suggestions.

The all-new Echo Dot is a hands free and voice controlled device that plays music, controls smart home appliances, reads the weather, and more. The devices responds to the name “Alexa,” which can be changed to either Echo or Amazon. Additionally, the Google Chromecast Audio is a small device that plugs into a speaker to wirelessly stream music.

Unlike a regular selfie stick, the Spivo Stick makes it possible to use any type of video recording device while also swivel a full 180 degrees with just a press of a button. Described as the “next level selfie stick” this device helps capture images and adventures surrounding the person and it’s a traveling must-have.

Each device costs less than $50 and are relatively new. They provide an elegant and sophisticated feel to their surroundings, not to mention how useful they are.

Although Christmas gifts can be a little tricky it’s worth the trouble when the person receiving it is grinning ear to ear. Sharing feelings of joy and happiness — that’s what the season of giving is all about.
