Boys Basketball Gets Big Win Against Eastview

The Apple Valley boys basketball team defeated the Eastview Lightning with a dominant performance and a big lead on the scoreboard.

Coming into this game, the Eagles had a seven game winning streak and only two losses this season. Motivated by the big rivalry with Eastview, Apple Valley managed to add another win to their streak.

The Eagles started the game off strong, scoring most of their points in the first half. With their hard work on the paint, they were able to dominate on both offensive and defensive rebounds. Their offensive performance paid off, as they ended the half with an astonishing twenty-four points lead.

The second half was a much more even game, as Eastview tried to diminish the lead and get back into the game. However the Eagles showcased a great defensive play, and kept delivering points. The game ended 79-54.

It was an overall great game for Apple Valley. They showed great ball movement and were fairly accurate for downtown, getting a total of twenty two assists and making eleven three pointers. Their defense was strong and effective too, getting eight steals and a collection of blocks during the game.

Senior Mohamed Kone and junior Luke Martens had amazing performances. Kone finished with  thirteen points and led the team with ten rebounds. Martens scored eleven points and had eight rebounds.

The junior Tre Jones had the best individual performance. His presence, both offensively and defensively, is what made him so important for the Eagles. Jones led the team in points, assists and steals, with twenty two points, seven assists and four steals. He also had eight rebounds and one block.

The Eagles are having their usual outstanding regular season, as they are first in the South Suburban Conference with a record of 13-2. Apple Valley’s next opponent will be Burnsville High School, in an away game on Tuesday January 31st.
